Often thought to be the mad goddess of anime soundtracks, Yoko Kanno is a composer who refuses to let her work be described by a single adjective. Diverse and eclectic compositions are the game of her game—from the iconic, Jazz-filled tunes of Cowboy Bebop, to the alternative rock jams of Wolf’s Rain, and the blaring electronic beats of Macross Plus. And while she’s not a musician who looks to walk the same artistic rivers twice, she’s maintained strong collaborative relationships with lauded talents such as Shinichiro Watanabe and Shoji Kawamori.
