A beloved talent among giant robot connoisseurs, Obari got his start in the mid 1980s as a key animator and mechanical designer on classics such as Megazone 23, Dangaioh, and The Transformers. This steady stream of work eventually led to his directorial debut, Moonlight Rambler and Red Eyes—episodes five and six of Bubblegum Crisis. The success of this debut propelled him into directing some of the 1990s’ most fondly remembered OVAs, namely, his work on the Fatal Fury series.
