Before he was the father of Tenchi Muyo, Masaki Kajishima primarily worked at AIC as an animator on OVA series such as Gall Force and Bubblegum Crisis. While working on the latter, Kajishima and his colleague Hiroki Hayashi dreamed up a chaotic comedy about a young man surrounded by extraordinary women. After a couple of years and a lot of tweaking the idea, the very first Tenchi Muyo OVA hit store shelves in 1992, giving birth to one of the most explosively popular series of the 1990s. From that point on, Kajishima dedicated himself to Tenchi’s multiple spin-off series while dabbling in the occasional bit of adult work. With a Tenchi Muyo project on the horizon, it doesn’t seem like Kajishima’s about to give up on it anytime soon.
