Need a haunting, cheerful, or rousing tune? Kenji Kawai’s compositions fit all those moods, and then some. Western audiences might know him best for his frequent collaborations with director Mamoru Oshii on films such as Ghost in the Shell, Patlabor 2, and The Sky Crawlers. However, Kawai’s resume stretches way further out than just that. He’s composed the soundtracks for many beloved anime series like Umamusume: Cinderella Gray, Mob Psycho 100, and Ranma ½ (1989). But on top of all that, Kawai has lent his talents to numerous productions throughout TV, film, and video games, including the horrifying soundscape of J-Horror classic, Ring.
