Often seen as a tokusatsu auteur, Keita Amemiya is celebrated for his intricately designed dark fantasy worlds and gritty takes on classic heroes. Following his directorial debut, 1988’s Mirai Ninja, he started drumming up interest within special effects spaces for the unique design sensibilities he introduced to works such as Mobile Cop Jiban and Chojin Sentai Jetman. As a result, Amemiya remained busy through most of the 90s between his Zeiram films, Kamen Rider ZO, and Mechanical Violator Hakaider. Ever since 2005, the auteur has been knee-deep in the world of GARO—an adult-focused dark fantasy series that’s been going strong to this day.
