We’ve merged our email newsletter with Discotek Media’s! Since MediaOCD already handled all of Discotek’s marketing, and the MediaOCD Store is now the preferred retailer for Discotek product, it didn’t make much sense to keep them separate. Didja see our panel? We announced FIVE new titles, including…
• AD Police (1990, 3 eps) – The original 1990 OVA prequel to Bubblegum Crisis, now remastered in 4K from original camera negatives! Will include US and UK dubs, and several other languages too. We also tracked down singer Lou Bonnevie for a brand new interview. Coming in January in a UHD + BD combo pack.
• Sakon the Ventriloquist (1999-2000, 26 eps) – Sakon is a quiet guy, and a puppeteer in the classic Edo Period style. His puppet Ukon, however, is gregarious and sharp-witted. Together, they become involved in a number of dark murder mysteries… and it’s up to the two of them to solve ’em! Based on the manga illustrated by Takeshi Obata (Death Note, Hikaru no Go). Coming to SD-BD in fall 2026!
• Drucker in the Dugout (2011, 10 eps) – When Minami takes over as manager for her high school’s failing baseball team, she has no idea what she’s supposed to be doing. So she stops by the book store and buys a book on Management. Turns out, she’s picked up Peter Drucker’s famous business management textbook. Undaunted, she decides to apply his principles to the team… with surprisingly good results! One of the most educational anime ever made, and a must for anybody who’s put in charge of other people. Coming in late 2026.
• House of Five Leaves (2010, 12 eps) – Masanosuke is a ronin (master-less samurai) who’s down on his luck. He’s too timid to be of much use, and can’t hold down a job. One day, he encounters Yaichi, the charismatic leader of a group of bandits calling themselves the Five Leaves, and is offered a job as his bodyguard. He’s suspicious of the group, but in no position to be turning down a job. Soon, he learns the dark past of Yaichi and the rest of the group… and it’s too late to leave. Based on the award-winning manga by Natsumi Ono. Coming in early 2027.
• Baby and I (1996-97, 35 eps) – When 12-year-old Takuya’s mother dies in an accident, his whole family will never be the same. Since Dad works, it’s up to Takuya to take care of his 2-year-old brother Minoru. Is Takuya up to the task? And what will he give up of his own childhood to do so? A remarkably beautiful, sad, cute and funny series, making its English language debut. Coming to SD-BD in early 2027.
Also, one small update… We announced that Vampire Princess Miyu would ship within the next couple of weeks. However, after further discussion with the licensor, we have agreed to one final push to get a “real” package approved. So, it will ship in late September/early October, as previously planned.

Come See Us At Otakon 2026!
Our biggest con of the year is Otakon, in Washington D.C., famous for its huge number of classic anime fans. We’re back with a pair of panels and, of course, the Discotek booth! Come say hi, and bring your pocket money, as we’ll have our usual stacks and stacks of Blu-rays and DVDs. And as for our panels…

Both panels will feature new announcements, give-aways, and Q&A if there’s time. (There’s never time at the Discotek panel… We have a lot to talk about!) We have some real bangers to talk about, so definitely come by!
If you’re not coming to Otakon, don’t worry… The Discotek panel will have a parallel streaming event on YouTube (including a few additions that we won’t have time for live), and announcements from both panels will be posted here and on social media. New items ready for preorder will also be posted live to MediaOCD.com as they’re announced! EXCITE!
New in the Store!
The other week, we quietly added the fresh and gorgeous European animated film Icarus to the store. It’s a gorgeous retelling of not just the story of Icarus, but several other Greek myths, in the style of the Oscar winning “Flow.” It’s a must-see! (It’s also up on Tubi if you want a preview.)
We also added the sexy fighting anime Master of Martial Hearts! In HD for the first time!

Columns!
We’re bringing back classic “exploring anime history” columns from well known writers. The first two are from our friend and noted scholar Jonathan Clements. Admittedly, these first two are not about anime. The first one is about the classic samurai film Sword of Desperation, the samurai film on final closeout in the store.
The second is a very timely goodbye to our friend Tony Rayns, who passed away this week. We are very grateful for his help in securing his history lesson in Chinese cinema on the Red Sorghum BD.

Is It Out Of Print???
We get asked all the time if a certain hard-to-get Discotek title is out of print. We didn’t know, ourselves, in some cases, so we did the research and came up with a master list. Keep this bookmarked, as it will be updated!
