AD Police, Vampire Princess Miyu and other updates
Hey guys! Been a minute. I hope you’ve been enjoying all the wholesome columns we’ve been adding to the blog section of our site.
Presenting… AD Police
AD Police is a project we’ve been working on since we took over AnimEigo over 2 years ago. (It took us most of that time just to get access to the negative.) But now we have it… and WOW. (Watch the below trailer with headphones, or something with bass.)
If you’re unfamiliar, AD Police is a grim-dark spinoff of the cyberpunk classic Bubblegum Crisis. Taking place 5 years earlier, Megatokyo is a dystopian nightmare, awash with crime, vice, and Boomers gone amok. Leon McNichol is just a rookie, joining the special police department tasked with taking on Boomer crime. (Boomers are robots in this case… just in case that wasn’t clear.)
This was a dream project. I was bugging Robert to make this disc for a decade before I even bought AnimEigo. We commissioned a new 4K scan from the original camera negative, and our team of restoration experts cleaned it up and colored it to match the original cels. I don’t say this often, but the remaster is a revelation. At times, it looks like you’re just plain looking at the cels themselves. The old video masters were so dark that huge amounts of detail were lost, so we’re seeing parts of the image that simply were never visible before. Ever.

AD Police will be our first 4K disc, and this will be released exclusively as a Blu-ray/UHD Blu-ray combo pack. Bonus features are still being finalized, but at minimum, will include a brand new interview with Filipino singer Lou Bonnevie (whose songs are an essential part of the series), reconstructed HD versions of all the music videos that came with the show, original design works, promos, and more. In addition to the two English dubs (US and UK), the discs will include French, Spanish and Russian dubs, and subtitles in English, Spanish, French and German.
The slipcover deserves special mention. A number of the original paintings by Tony Takezaki have never been seen in their entirety in the US before, mostly because they have bare boobs. (The robots they’re attached to are… nightmarishly incomplete, so this is more art than goon material.) This webstore exclusive slipcover features both of these previously obscured images, and it comes wrapped in a brown paper bag so you don’t have to explain yourself to loved ones.

Obviously, we’re huge fans of this show, and we couldn’t be happier to release it. It’s up for preorder now. And even better… we have a T-shirt to commemorate the occasion. Because 2027 is right around the corner…

You can get both together in a bundle (with a slight discount!)
Both will ship in January, but we will try very hard to get direct orders out the door before the holidays. We can’t promise though.
Vampire Princess Miyu update
For the many of you that have been following the saga of Vampire Princess Miyu and the Ghostly Pale Packaging, I am pleased to say that this saga has now come to a close. Late on Sunday night, I was informed that, after a long and valiant effort by our licensors, our packaging draft for this classic OVA has FINALLY been approved!

So, what happens now? We honestly didn’t think this would happen, so we had all of the discs printed and ready to go with the (ahem) minimalist packaging, but we kept them all at the replication plant just in case. So now, all of the inserts are being reprinted and re-shrink-wrapped, and the disc labels are being re-silkscreened. The slipcovers are also being reprinted. We anticipate that everything should be done by the end of September, and we should start shipping them out to customers by the first week of October.
For those who really really wanted the white packaging, we’re really sorry. We’re DEFINITELY not allowed to ship that. However, the approved artwork is so gorgeous, I think most people will be pretty happy with the final product.
However happy you might be that we’re finally able to ship this incredible OVA, imagine that times 5000 and that’s us. We also owe an enormous debt of gratitude to our friends at Pony Canyon and AMG for making it happen.
As of right now, this is still a MediaOCD Store Exclusive, and our agreement is still set to expire in the spring. We will update you if that changes.
Flamingo Camp
This is our Whole Grain Pictures title for January, and it’s a world-premiere!
Directed by our friend Chris Coats, Flamingo Camp follows a desert commune of Queer people trying to live off the grid. Things are fine, until the community is rocked by the murder of one of its prominent residents. Cameras rolled as the remaining residents grappled with the ramifications.
We realize this one won’t be for everybody, but we think it’s an important film, and should definitely be seen by a wider audience. (Whatever you’re thinking this film’s politics are… it’s much more nuanced and thoughtful than you might think.)
And if this one isn’t for you, may I kindly recommend our earlier release, Big Boobs Buster! See? We have something for everyone.
It comes out at the end of January on Blu-ray and VOD! Note that there’s a DVD release too, mostly for institutional use.
New Store Additions!
We’ve been EXTREMELY busy adding new products to the store! Have you noticed? We have our first listings from Viz Media, and more from Media Blasters and Sentai! We’re adding more products every week.
This week, we also added gift cards! We think those should come in handy… and the designs are as full of personality as you’d expect of us.

Coming soon, we’ll be adding our first manga selections to the store. We’ll be concentrating on stocking smaller publishers at first, which might be harder to find in other places. We’re starting with our friends at Manga Mavericks.
We have so, so, SOOO much more coming. As New Order once sang, “it’s never enough until your heart stops beating.” Or you run out of money. (“The deeper you get, the sweeter the pain”?)
Thanks for all of your support!
